JOHN M. BELL

This series of works relates to my numerous travels in Scotland and  Ireland beginning in 2003. Scotland explorations have covered much of the country including the western Highlands, Outer Hebrides, Orkney, Skye, the Lowlands, and (most recently) the northeast Highlands in 2023. In 2005, I was an artist-in-residence at the Cill Rialaig Project in County Kerry, Ireland.

My Journey is an ongoing exploration of the enigmatic prehistoric and ancient sites of carefully designed and placed stone circles, standing stones, and tombs. For me, these places are vital reminders of elemental existence and serve as testaments to the human desire to understand and to connect with the cosmos.

I am also intrigued by the (often abandoned) stone dwellings which are scattered throughout Éireann and Alba.
